Does anyone know if you can use standard straplocks on a Gibson 'Bird?
I don't feel comfortable with my guitar just hangin out there in front of me, not locked to my strap in some way.
Can anyone suggest a brand, or style that works well with Firebirds?

I've been using Dunlops. Because the strap ties in behind the neck the Schaller style's pin I think would drive me insane.

Plus Dunlops seem the be the only one I can consistently find the buttons (separate from the locks) for. Its a shame, I think the Schaller is a more secure design.... but then again I've never heard of anyone's dunlop failing.

As usual Doug...we disagree, hehe!
I use Schallers on all my guitars, Firebirds included. You can get Schaller buttons from Allparts, even in bulk. While I've never known a Dunlop to fail per se, I have had them stick in the "on" position & have heard many horror stories of their button getting bumped, releasing the guitar. With the Schallers you have gravity working to keep the strap on & you have to pull to release, as opposed to push, which I think is more secure. I think an added plus is the Schallers buttons seem more secure when not using a strap with locks on it.
To each his own...as usual, hehe!

No Tony I actually completely agree with you. The Schallers are a far, FAR superior design imo. I used them for years but when I needed to convert a bunch of guitars AllParts, SM and pretty much everyone was on back order at the time so I went dunlop.

Totally agree though.
