Tuning Problem

Tuning Problem

Postby Pappy on Thu Jul 30, 2009 9:22 am

I put a new set of Regular Slinkys on my 3 month old Firebird V this weekend.
This is the 2nd set of new stings I put on. I changed the ones that came on it when I got it in May and broke the high E this weekend, thus necessitating the string change. Anyway........ I can't seem the get the high E to stay in tune. After a few bends, or jammin out fro a few minuteds, it's flat by at least a whole note. I've never had this happen to me w /any other guitar. When you put new strings I know they need time to stretch out, but this has been since Sat. and I can't seem to stretch it out. I can't see any slipping on the tuning post, and I just keep tuning up. A bad String? A bad tuner? any advise, or ideas?

I'd see if your local store has individual strings and replace it first. Every once in a while I get one out of the box that won't stay in tune no matter what.

+1 for Doug's suggestion. I'd also check out another brand. I've found EBs to be much less consistant in quality, in MY experience.

Low and behold, I picked her up last night and banged on her and all was well. Stayed in tune.
I use the Slinkys most of the time, because of the cost. I'd rather use GHS, but they rarely go on sale.
I'm going to get the Steinberger keys by this fall. I'll say it again, I don't like the Gibson Firebird tuners.

Good to hear Pappy.

Now... if StewMac would EVER go off back order on the damn tuners. They've changed the design some and they aren't as aesthetically pleasing but they look a bit more functional.
