No more VII

No more VII

OK, I'll be the first'

The Gibson website shows only the V is still in production, not the VII. That's a shame, I love the 3 mini humbuckers.

What do you think?

You mean Gibsons website? ;)

Anyways, I couldn't agree more! I f'ing LOVE my "VII". The middle pup is fantastically cool sounding.

Frankly, other than my "firebird jr" Im building, all the ones I have in the works right now have 3 pickups. 3 mini's, 1 with 3 p90's and 1 with 3 full sized buckers. They just look better

The VII has been gone for a while...too bad. The middle pickup DOES have a certain honk to it, although I usually use mine in combination with the neck, bridge or even all three. It will probably show up in one of their "Guitar of the Month" limited editions or just be reissued.
In conflict to what I've just said, I'd love to see a non-Custom Shop FB I too...& in some decent colors too! I'm not a big fan of TSB...

I've always had a love/hate relationship with the FB VII. The middle pickup DOES sound cool, but with my playing style, the pick keeps hitting the pickup cover, and Im constantly getting little "clicks" thru the amp as a result. I've always been partial to the FB III, because of it having 2 pickups, but more importantly, having the wraptail for a bridge. To me, it makes a very noticeable difference in tone and response, not to mention eliminating part of the tuning issues the trem guitars have.

Hmmm, I only have 1 FB with a trem, but have no tuning issues. I don't really waggle it a lot though.

I dont use the trem at all, but I'd prefer it without one in the first place, which is why I like III's. (Never really liked FB I's... IMO that guitar lives for its neck pickup).
When I owned vintage FB's, tuning seemed to be more of an issue than with other guitars, like LP's or Strats (but my Strats ARE hardtails though). Maybe it was a combination of the trem, those old tuners, and how thin the neck is. I've always noticed a lot of neck flex on older 'Birds.
The only guitar I have with a trem (besides the 'Birds) is one of those original "paddle-body" Steinbergers, and that has the ability to lock the trem up, so its not an issue with that guitar.
