help ID'ng a non-reverse

Postby TripleJammer on Sun Jun 14, 2009 6:32 am

Hi All,

I was watching the english band Kasabian play a set at the NME awards the other night on Palladia and was struck by what i thought was a classic white non-reverse firebird with two full size humbuckers, It was being played by America band member Jay Mehler. You can see it here: http://www.fanpix.net/gallery/jay-mehler-pictures.htm.

I fully accept my eyes are playing tricks on me and these are mini HBs, but i am hoping someone here can help me sort this out.

No, there is/was a Custom Shop model with 2 Burstbuckers...YEECH! They also had one available with a choice of 3 minis or 3 P90s. Your eyes are OK ;)

That's it! The BB pups were the missing piece of the search. Found it here: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=517197.

I play reguarly with a guitar housing a single p90 and have always loved the tone from the right combination of wood and a good p90 so I can see a firebird with p90s being attractive to me; however, i have recently been playing with some burstbuckers in a V. I eventually decided on a bb1 and bb2 potted (only available in gibson vos models). There are three non-potted burstbuckers available, three non-potted burstbucker pros and then the potted vos models. I am far away from being able to say burstbuckers in a reverse or non-reverser firebird would be a good idea, but i can say that combining different types of burstbuckers really offers some amazing tone options. One advantage i could see to the burstbucker firebird would be the ability to experiment with different pups minus any routing or other mods (including the various humbucker sized p90s that are now out).

Thanks so much for the help on this it was driving me crazy!!!

You might want to try a Firebird with the older, lower output Mini-humbuckers, if you can find one(pre-1990). I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with the tone & versatility they can give you! The newer ceramic Hi-Output minis...not so much IMHO.
