Hello from Rockville, MD

Postby richpix on Fri Feb 13, 2009 10:33 am

I was surfing the net and found this forum and since I just finished my first guitar build (a Firebird copy) I thought I should join a forum for people that love them. My friend has a beautiful white with gold hardware Firebird VII and I've been in love with that guitar ever since! I am amazed at how my build came out. Plays and sounds unbelievable, I can't believe I created it.
So here I am, ready to chat and learn even more about this great instrument.

Welcome Rich! We have another builder here, Doug, who builds some fine Birds too. You two can compare notes & provide us with a peek at some of your knowledge.
While I have a personal distain for full-size buckers(heresy! ) & a Floyd Rose(yeeech! ) on a Firebird, it all comes down to personal taste & what works for YOU, right? It's all good.
I'm just glad you didn't carve up a '64 to do it, hehe!
Thanks for joining us & I look forward to your input!

Thanks for the welcome.
I was commissioned to build it with these specs. The trem is a Kahler, not a Flyod. I don't like to carve up any piece of wood going into a guitar!

I should have noticed the Kahler...DUH! Nice build though! Is it Neck through?

No, time constraints forced it to be a bolt on. Not the preferred method but it still has great sustain and tone. My next one will be. I fell in love with this guitar while building it and must have one for myself!

Well, IF you have the time, I would probably be well worth the effort to do a neck through. I think it'sone of the deciding factors in the Firebird tone & feel. IMHO, of course! Looks good though!

Sorry It's taken so long to get back to the forum, I've been busy making my wife a jewelry box for her birthday. Here are a few more pics for you Doug, plus one of the finished present!
Thanks, Rich
