Check out the honkin PIO caps !!!
Got the replacement pot from RH. Finally got everything in working order and closed up the control cavity.
Here's a crappy picture of what the new electronics look like:

Anyway she sounds great now that I can tame the savage bridge pup, tonewise. I can live with the stock pups for a while.

I have a new wiring harness in '50's style wiring ready to go from Rick Norman (Dr Vintage). 500K pots, his choice of caps and it's wired with both volumes on top (vintage Firebird style as opposed to traditional Les Paul style). I considered RS Guitarworks also as I've got 2 of their wiring harnesses in Les Pauls.

Here's Dr Vintage: http://www.doctorvintage.com/drv1_controls.html

I spent the rent on a pair of authentic vintage '63-'64 vintage Gibson Firebird pickups.

The guitar in question is a 1990 V and I've also got a set of early '60's gold top hat with reflector knobs to replace those
historically wrong black knobs that Gibson chose to put on.

The tail piece and TP studs are Pigtail, medium relic.
